A position paper is a 1-page statement of a country/character’s stance on the topic of debate. All attendees of LooMUN 2025 are required to submit a position paper draft by 11:59PM on April 5th.

Requirements:

  • Length & Formatting: Typed, 12 pt. Times New Roman font, single-spaced, with 1-inch margins on every side.

  • Content: The goal of a position paper is to accurately represent the position of your country/character on the topic of debate. You can use any style to convey that position. We recommend the following 3-paragraph structure:

    • Paragraph 1: A general introduction to the topic (the history of the topic, the current situation within which debate is taking place, etc.)

    • Paragraph 2: Your country/character’s past actions and position on the topic

    • Paragraph 3: The actions your country/character intends to take to resolve the topic

  • Sources: We encourage all position papers to be well-researched. LooMUN requires that all position papers reference at least three trustworthy sources (news articles from reputable major publications, encyclopedia articles, academic articles, etc.).

    • NOTE: The Official LooMUN 2023 Background Guides can be incredibly helpful in starting your research. The background guides are linked in the page for your committee — please be sure to give them a thorough read!

    • Those sources can be cited in any manner you so choose: through linking your sources at the bottom of your document or using footnotes, or through any citation style you prefer (APA/MLA/Chicago/etc.)

  • Questions: Please reach out to loomismun@gmail.com with any questions!
